The Tanner Theatre is named for Mabel DeVries Tanner, founder of the Morgantown Players and integral benefactor for the creation of Monongalia Arts Center. MAC is proud to have the only public black-box cabaret style theater in the region. This multifaceted space is home to M.T. Pockets Theatre and hosts numerous other events. From experimental music, to dance, to classical performing Arts and literature events, the Tanner Theatre is never fallow. This space is also available to rent for private parties and public events (with several months notice).
Interesting Tanner Theatre Tidbits:
The Tanner Theatre has been mobility-impairment accessible for over 30 years.
The acoustics are so good that almost no theatrical or chamber music performances require any microphones.
MAC has a full-size grand piano built by Steinway and perfectly balanced for classical performance.
The red curtain is a section of the original curtain from the Metropolitan Theatre on High Street.
The Tanner Theatre contains a secret passage way originally used for spying on postal employees, which now doubles as our catwalk.
Some nationally-known musicians commonly rent the theatre for closed recording session, often traveling hundreds of miles.

In July of 2008, M.T. Pockets Theatre grew out of their former space and into the Tanner Theatre. They are a truly unique organization that is an indelible asset to our community. With one to two different events per month and 3 to 5 performances per event, M.T. Pockets is never resting. Many of their plays are written by company members and reviewed in public readings. Many of the cast members are formerly trained and actors with BFAs and MFAs in theatre, and everyone in the community regardless of training and skill-level are welcome to submit manuscripts and audition for roles.
Alchemy Dance is an experimental dance company created under M.T. Pockets which also now calls MAC home.
