Configurations by Stacey Elder
May 1-31, 2009

Opening Reception
Friday, May 1, 2009 7-9:00P.M.

On May 1, installation artist Stacey Elder will transform the walls of the Davis Gallery at the Monongalia Arts Center into a visual experience incorporating a combination of 2-D and 3-D elements, as well as a mixture of mediums. A native of Clarksburg, Elder is currently working on her undergraduate degree and plans to pursue her Master of Fine Arts degree.

When asked what inspires her work and her creative method, Elder explained, “I am drawn to abstract art because it gives me a lot of options, and I don't have to be confined to a certain image or idea. I work with acrylic and latex paint because I need a medium that dries quick, and I have more options when applying other mediums on top to build my layers.”

Elder hopes that viewers will see the process within the finished product. She said, “I want my viewers to see how beautiful drawing can be itself rather than certain images that are created when drawing. The process to this series of work is very important rather than an emotional connection or specific idea.”

Ro Brooks, Executive Director of MAC, noted that work incorporating such interesting composition aligned well with the intention of the Robert M. Davis Gallery for Emerging Artists.

As for her future plans, Elder wants to expand both the size and composition of her installations and creative processes. She said, “There are a lot of options when doing this type of work and that is one of the reasons I love to do it. I am also exploring new ideas in printmaking that can relate to very loose drawings but with ink and colored pencil.”

The opening reception for the “Configurations” by Stacey Edler in the Davis Gallery will be Friday, May 1, 2009 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM on the second floor of Monongalia Arts Center. The reception is free and open to the public. While the Davis Gallery is not accessible to those with disabilities, images of the art work are available for viewing in the lobby of MAC. The exhibition will be up through May 31, 2009. For more information, please visit the MAC website at www.monartscenter.com or call 304-292-3325.
